News Elsewhere: Travel Channel Pulls Adam Richman's New Show After Instagram Rant

Posted on 08:00 by Unknown
The host of several TV food shows has had his latest show pulled (at least for now), possibly because of a social media tirade that he went on.

The Washington Post is reporting that Adam Richman of "Man v. Food" fame has had his new show "Man Finds Food" pulled by the Travel Channel, with the show no longer being seen on the network's schedule. The article indicates that the postponing of the show could be in response to an Instagram rant where Richman was called out for using the hashtag #thinspiration, which the XOJane site says is popular in pro-anorexia and pro-bulimia circles. When this was brought up to him, Richman responded with a number of expletive-filled posts on Instagram, at least some of which have since been deleted. The TV host subsequently delivered an apology to ABC's "Good Morning America," stating that "I'm incredibly sorry to everyone I've hurt."

At this point in time, it is not known if or when "Man Finds Food" will be shown the Travel Channel. (It was supposed to have had its debut on July 2.)

Thanks to Eater National for initially bringing this to our attention.

The Skellig in Waltham to Be Replaced by Garcia Brogan's

Posted on 07:09 by Unknown
It looks like a popular Irish pub west of Boston is closing its doors, and a Mexican-Irish restaurant and bar will be taking over its space.

A Twitter message from @brandnewwatch indicates that The Skellig in Waltham is shuttering, with Garcia Brogan's moving into its spot on Moody Street. According to a Twitter post from @DowntownWaltham, the new place that is moving in will be a second location of a dining and drinking spot with the same name in Lowell, and it will apparently have a Mexican cantina on one side and an Irish-themed bar on the other, with bands in the back and a DJ and dance floor likely in the front.

It is not known when The Skellig will close or when Garcia Brogan's will open; as soon as we get more information, we will post an update here.

The address for The Skellig (and upcoming Garcia Brogan's) is 240 Moody Street, Waltham, MA, 02453. The website for the Lowell location of Garcia Brogan's can be found at http://www.garciabrogans.com/

Mario Batali to Open Babbo Pizzeria at Fan Pier in Boston

Posted on 06:11 by Unknown
A year and a half ago, we reported that a New York-based celebrity chef, restaurateur, writer, and TV personality was looking to open a restaurant in the Fort Point section of Boston. Those plans ultimately ended up falling though last summer, but now we have learned that plans are back on to open the eatery at a nearby location.

The Boston Globe is reporting that Mario Batali is going to be opening Babbo Pizzeria at Fan Pier toward the western edge of the Seaport/Innovation District, with the 8,700-square-foot restaurant offering wood-fired pizza and pasta dishes and having separate bars for drinks, antipasti, and pizza, as well as an outdoor patio and private space for large groups. It had originally appeared that Babbo might open on Summer Street in the Fort Point neighborhood, but plans to open there never came to be, and by August of last year, it appeared that there were no plans in the works for Batali to open a place in Boston for the foreseeable future.

If all goes as planned, Babbo Pizzeria could be open at Fan Pier by the end of the year, according to the Globe.

Taste of Allston to Be Held June 28, 2014

Posted on 13:35 by Unknown
A food event is returning to a Boston neighborhood this weekend, and as always, a number of local eateries will be participating.

According to an article in the Allston-Brighton TAB, the 17th annual Taste of Allston will take place tomorrow (Saturday, June 28) at Harvard's Murr Center on North Harvard Street, with the event going from 12:00 to 3:00. The article says that more than 20 restaurants will be taking part in this year's Taste of Allston, with some new dining spots being at the event (the article mentions Roxy's Grilled Cheese and Lulu's being there).

Tickets to the 2014 Taste of Allston cost $25 in advance and $30 at the event, with unlimited food samples and one free alcoholic drink--with a valid ID--included (each addition drink is $5).

Latitude 360 Could Be Coming to Boston's Downtown Crossing

Posted on 12:24 by Unknown
A restaurant, nightclub, and entertainment complex that is based in Florida may be on its way to the heart of Boston.

The Boston Business Journal is reporting that Latitude 360 is looking to open at the Lafayette City Center in Boston’s Downtown Crossing, with the proposed 63,000-square-foot venue including a dining area, bar, game room, dance floor with live music, bowling alley, movie theater, and sports theater. The article says that the group behind the planned spot has signed a letter of intent with the owner of the Lafayette City Center, though the place still needs to go through the approval and permitting process before it becomes reality.

Currently, there are three locations of Latitude 360, with complexes being found in Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis, with another on the way to Albany, NY, and a fifth being planned for Kingston, MA. The website for Latitude 360 can be found at http://latitude360.com/
